Michael Seredick

If not for a chance encounter in a university elective class, Michael Seredick would be in the corporate world instead of the music world. Entering college at Kent State University as a business major, Michael happened to take a class in music theory as an elective, where he met John Ferguson, the graduate student who was teaching the course. Michael relates how he was inspired and transformed after attending Ferguson’s organ recital—“he captivated and expanded my interest in music”—whereupon Michael changed his major. His limited musical background, which included the accordion and some piano lessons, now became his passion, and he went on to attain his undergraduate and masters degrees from Kent State University. His years of studies in music also included participation in the Kent State Choir, the St. Dominic’s Church Choir, and Singers Club of Cleveland. As a music educator, Michael has held the position of choral director in various Cleveland area schools as well as assistant director for many years to the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus. He was also the assistant director to the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus under the leadership of Robert Page, whom Michael credits as his mentor and model on how to run a choir. Michael continues to participate as a singer in the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, where he has been a member since 1971. He would like to dedicate his work on THE ANGELUS to Kate Brown, the initiator of this project, because “I know how much work is involved to produce a CD.”
